Bulletproof -

Bulletproof is a rather routine buddy-action/comedy that should have concentrated a bit more on the comedy side, and less on the action. Archie Moses (Adam Sandler) and Rock Keats (Damon Wayans) are partners in crime, and best friends to boot…that is until Keats reveals he is actually an undercover cop and proceeds to arrest his friend. Archie escapes when he accidentally shoots Keats in the head. Segue to one year later. Archie is wanted by his former employer, Frank Colton (James Caan), for bringing an undercover cop into his operations, so Archie decides to turn states evidence. Keets, now recovered, is assigned to bring him in. The two must dodge Colton’s overt attempts to kill them, and must not kill each other before they reach L.A. Sandler and Wayans are gifted comics, and in most of their comic scenes, they perform superbly. Unfortunately, they are weighed down by the unwieldly framework of the traditional buddy-cop action flick. Neither of them do very well out of their natural habitat, and there isn’t enough inventiveness in the storyline to help them out. Ernest Dickerson handles the direction standardly, without any true standout shots. The result is a film that’s amusing without being laugh-out-loud funny, and diverting entertainment rather than a knock-your-socks-off action fest. It’ll be good for a video rental.
