Judge Dredd -
Good action movie, but not much more. The weaknesses of this film are the weaknesses of Stallone…good action, but mumbled dialog and shallow charcterizations.
Apollo 13 -
Excellent true-life drama of the Apollo 13 moon voyage. Tom Hanks leads the superb ensemble cast. The zero-gravity shots are amazing. Ron Howard’s direction provides excitement and suspense, even if you already know the outcome.

A very PC American legend. Enjoyable, but doesn’t measure up to Disney’s recent standards. The animation is good, but not quite as breathtaking as The Lion King. Most of the songs are servicable, but only one, “The Colors of the … Continue reading

Smoke -
Intelligently written, well acted account of the lives of several New Yorkers whose lives intersect around a cigar store. A slow, but thoughful movie, deserving to be savored.

Congo -
Adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel about an expedition into the African jungle to find the lost city of Zinj. Seriously dumbed-down version of the novel. Several key and exciting plot points were scrapped in order to simplify the meager … Continue reading

The Bridges of Madison County -
Beautifully filmed and well acted (expect nominations for Cinematography and Best Actress). However neither of those can compensate for the rather mundane and familiar plot.
